Stephen King Character Question?

A long time ago, I listened to an audio book of a Stephen King novel. In it, there are flashbacks where the main character is in a house with his father (and maybe brother?) and his father always calls him "Scooter" or "Scooter, you ol’ Scoot!" I remember the flashbacks end around the time his father goes crazy and kills a worker from a plant that was coming to check on the father since he hadn’t been to work in a long time. There was also something about a large amount of money ($700?) in a jar that was burned or ripped up or in some other way destroyed, and that’s when the son ran away. If anyone remember’s the name of the novel to which I’m referring, I would really appreciate your help. Thanks so much!

Definitely Lisey’s Story, I’ve just finished reading it!
