I would love for someone to clarify the justification for needing a church that costs more than a hospital or school. And before you argue that most of the money goes to things that are necessities for the church: a 40,000sq.ft. building with crystal chandeliers, high quality statues in every corner, top-of-the-line audio equipment to speak through, and a minister that owns two brand new vehicles is NOT required to have someone read out of a book.

I undoubtedly believe that if such a church was stripped down to lawn chairs underneath a tent that 90% of the church’s members would complain that the church leaders were weakening their own belief in ‘God’.

Explain yourselves.
@ MixedGurl – thank you for cowardly proving my point and contradicting yourself within a few short sentences. "It takes money to get the word of God out" –> "What you are saying is not true". Well, some simple math comparisons leave us with:

Church + Money = Religion
Church – Money =/= Religion

And why do you think that God needs money? You realize that money is simply a complicated form of paper with advanced ink drawings on it, right? Our government.. the same one that approves of abortions and stem-cell research ("bad" things, in the Christian’s eye).. is the one that provides you with money, so long as you work your ass off and give a little of your earnings back to them.

The selling of God is BIG business. Religious hucksters from time immemorial have known – even before P.T. Barnum – that there’s a sucker born every minute. Exploit human gullibility, "spiritual void," wretchedness, hopelessness, and despair by offering an eternal reward of non-suffering and infinite happiness. Point out in subtle terms that this reward in the afterlife does come at a price, and begin collecting "offerings," "donations," and tithes and watch the God-selling business grow to obscene proportions.

Religious "leaders" are all hucksters – the degree of personal greed is just a matter of…degree.

P.S. Jesus is the greatest story ever SOLD. Just look at how the Roman Catholic Church has profited obscenely by it.

Ok, so I am making a film and it had the title Chocolate Fever. But then my friend said that I couldn’t do that since there was a children’s book called Chocolate Fever written by Robert Smith. (Our stories are completely different though) But after doing some research I found that book titles can’t be copyrighted, they can only be trademarked if the title is a series or complex enough.

So I searched the trade mark date base and found nothing for Chocolate Fever. But I emailed the author and asked if it was trademarked. But in return, I got a very rude email saying that I didn’t have permission to use his title and that he would sue me if I did. I reply back saying if he had proof that it was trademarked all he had to do was send it to me and I would change my title. I also told him that our stories are completely different and that I was just a student making a short film.

But then Robert replied saying his book was copyrighted, and his audio-book was copyrighted and I didn’t have permission and that he would sue me. But he not give any proof that it was trademarked.

Its a book written in the 1970’s and my film is a short student film. So I have no idea why he is going insane over this whole thing. But I just wanted some advice.

Would I be able to get away with changing my title to "Dark Chocolate Fever"?

I have also heard that book titles can’t be copyrighted.

I previously bought two books on the same subject, both with the same title, only two years apart in publishing date, both by different authors. Here they are as the first two titles on the page:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_adv_b/?search-alias=stripbooks&unfiltered=1&field-keywords=&field-author=&field-title=great+cholesterol+con&field-isbn=&field-publisher=&node=&field-p_n_condition-type=&field-feature_browse-bin=&field-binding_browse-bin=&field-subject=&field-language=&field-dateop=&field-datemod=&field-dateyear=&sort=relevanceexprank&Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.x=35&Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.y=11

I find it hard to believe that any publisher would print a book (the 2008 book) using a copyrighted title, setting themselves up to be sued by the author of the original book (the 2006 book).

I’m not a lawyer but my opinion is that you can use the title "Chocolate Fever" legally but you may still have to put up with this author as there’s nothing to stop him from filing a nuisance lawsuit, no matter how wrong he is.

I would talk with a copyright/trademark lawyer to find out what you’re up against and the possible costs involved in fighting with this guy. Maybe it would help if you had a lawyer write to this guy reading him the riot act if he doesn’t back off? Could your lawyer make life miserable for this guy if he doesn’t back off?

I find it really strange that a guy who is so hot on protecting his book title "Chocolate Fever" never purchased and used the domain http://www.chocolatefever.com/. When I type that into my browser, I get a generic search site for everything chocolate instead of a site plugging his book and anything else he might be selling to help market his book.

Did this guy sue the maker of this movie/film? If so, and he won, how could they still be selling it? If he lost, I’d like to see the written result. It sure looks to me like "Chocolate Fever" is what they call, "in the public domain" which means that anyone can use it. Agree? Disagree?

oh i dont want to download it or buy it (: thx

Youtube will get you the audio books, but you’d have to sit next to your computer to listen. Try looking online at your local library site and see if they have it on tape, I know mine did!

Hope I helped!

On Itunes, my audio books are separate, they only appear in the audio book section, not in music but on my Ipod they are in both sections (audio books & songs).
They never appear in shuffle (good thing!), but I’d like to know if there’s any way to make them not appear in the "songs" list of the Ipod.

Many thanks.
To scatwoman : thanks for your answer, but it’s already set on audiobook…

Right click on an audiobook file and select get info , slect options tab and set the file to audiobook

I love to listen to audio books and wonder if the Nook is capable of downloading audio books & music? Thanks in advance!

The Nook allow you to listen to music. But if you like to listen to audio books I’ll suggest you the Kindle because it has the text-to-speech function, which means the ebooks you bought it can read to you. The Kindle can play music at background as well, when you’re reading books.

I’ve given a detailed comparison between the Nook and the Kindle previously, in another answer here. Guess it’ll help you decide which one to choose:

And recently, Amazon has announced an upgrade to its Kindle, to secure their market shares. See here for the update details:

hello, i am seeking either abridged or unabridged audio books particular titles please that are not over ‘pg-13 ‘ in other words. no steamy, sexy or numerous swear words too. i am driving cross country with my annoyingly conservative & prude birth mother and i think audio books would be a swell idea and ideal ice breaker since my mother and i have very little in common. if only i could find audio books that we both could possibly like listening to, are there any you can think of ? to help give you an idea of my taste in books as well as my mother’s which most likely will help in recommending titles of certain audio books to me I’ll first list my favorite authors and than hers:

my favorite authors: Arundhati Roy, Jeanette Walls ,Conrad Aiken, Virginia Wolfe ,Zora Neal Hurston & J.D.Salinger

:Amy Tan, Azar Nafisi, Azadeh Moaveni, Carey Goldberg, Neil LaBute, Moss Hart & Tennessee Williams
in advance, thank you very much to all who provide helpful, caring and practical answers!

Have you checked with you local public library? The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has what seems to be thousands of titles. I understand that it doesn’t help you, but your local or county library may be able to help you, even if they do not have them in their collection. There may be something available through inter-library loan. All you can do is ask. The worst they can do is say, "No."

I would search audible. com by the authors you have selected or amazon.com, using the same technique. Chances are if it’s available in one format, it’s available in another that is compatible with your system. But even if you need to pay overdue fines, you’re probably going to be ahead over buying them. You may also be able to buy used ones through eBay. You can also sell your own books on disk there when you are finished with them. There are also rental services on the Internet. The advantage is that if you’re willing to pay a modest amount, you can get a much larger variety. No, I don’t have any sources, but if you Google it, you can likely find a bunch of places.

Also, please keep in mind that you may be willing to hear something that your mother would pick that you wouldn’t necessarily want to hear. My experience is that, particularly with non-fiction material, I will listen longer to some material than I would read if it was in print. Think of it as eating food that she would prefer; it is, after all, a matter of taste.

I use audible.com to download books onto my iPod. I have always been quite satisfied with their service, and they have a wide variety of titles. They are a subsidiary of Amazon. I have an adapter that will convert the MP3 player to a disk player. I got it at Radio Shack. No disks to shuffle, and it eliminates carrying stacks of disks with you.
