I have had trouble reading this book, which is something I am supposed to be reading for English class. This is why I have decided to get the audio book off of iTunes to help me out. I only have one problem deciding — should I get the abridged (shortened) version, or the unabridged (full) version. In class, we have skimmed through some parts of each chapter. Do you think that the abridged version will cut important details out, or will it just be simpler and cut unnecessary and repetitive minutaies out of the book?

Thank you :)

get the full version, you may have missed something

I seem to have gone through most of the stock at my library, about 10% I donated anyway and don’t drive anough to get through those 90 hour unabridged novels anymore. 10 points for one I haven’t read. Thanks

i like the Left Behind series

it’s gyot sutin 2 du wits audio books

It means it hasn’t been abridged, that is, shortened. In the case of audio books, they read the whole story, not just excerpts. (For dictionaries, it means every word is in there.)

I wouldn’t say I’m an avid and die hard fan but I do love the story very much. I own and have seen the movies numerous times and read the trilogy 3 times.
I have heard a few audio books lately and I’m becoming a fan of them.

When I googled "Lord of the Rinks Audio books" I got a little more then expected. This is where I need help.

There are a few versions out there I found these…The 1st two seem to seem to be the most popular. (i think)…

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_1_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=lord+of+the+rings+audiobook&sprefix=lord+of+the+rings+a

Then there’s this…

What is the difference between bridged and unabridged?
I think that unabridged means that it is word for word right out of the original text. Am I right or do I have it backwards?

I don’t want to spend that kind of money for the second one but I was hoping to get the exact wording from the book.

Am I reading too much into this? Will I be happy with the 40 dollar ones?
Oh, and any recommendations are appreciated.

You are correct that unabridged would refer to the word right out of the original text. One great option for where to get your audio books is Audible.com. You can just download the book you want and listen to it on your Ipod or computer. They have lots of different plans available and you can actually try 2 audiobooks free through http://www.book-club-offers.com/audible-platinum/ .

They have "Dramatized" versions which might be entertaining to listen to as well as teh "Unabridged" versions.

Hope that helps!

Ive been looking around and can only seem to find the abridged audio book for Gary Renard’s The Disappearance of the Universe. Does anyone knows where to download the unabridged version?

Look on Amazon for the publisher and then google the publishers website. If it’s available, they can tell you where to find it.

I need to read more, and by the way also comprehend it. So I am wondering weather using audio books are faster, or are they not? While on their titles they say unabridged, I am still not sure weather a book like say Freakonomics can be finished in 8 hours or Blink. If I was to read them it would defenitely cost me more time!
Therefore could it be me that read not so fast, as one can read in the audiobook.
When I try to read lloudly, it takes me even more time, I think!
Its confusing, I hope that someone out there has an answer to my question.

when you listen to a book you lose the ability to make notes in the margins or go back and do quick references to parts you may not understand. unabridged versions that you listen for enjoyment would be the exception to this, but if you’re listening for comprehension for subjects or non-fiction like freakanomics then reading is the way to go.

…from Amazon.com.
I do not mean daybooks; I mean audio books, i.e., cd’s.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=gabaldon+CD+unabridged&x=0&y=0

lists fourteen unabridged Diana Gabaldon audio titles on CD.

If the link does not work, use the search terms "Gabaldon CD Unabridged" on amazon.

I bought the first 2 books on CD then found out they were abridged. I was pretty annoyed so does anyone know if the unabridged versions are available.

If they don’t say abridged on the CDs, then the books will be the unabridged editions.
