in differentiating from the ones that have only voice of narrator .
I prefer audio books with full character voices , music , sound effects .
Have downloaded bundle of sample mp3s but all of them are just voice , I really dont like it anyways
Can anybody give me a hint ?
If you have experienced some very good audio books in such kind , please feel free to recommend me , thanks everyone
ah , what is "unabridged" in terms people used ?

Try searching for "dramatized audio books" to find sound effects and more than one reader. If you’ll use that search string on Amazon, you’ll come up with about 3 pages of hits, mostly religious texts but also some literary ones.

When a text is reproduced in full and nothing is edited or removed, it is called unabridged. Conversely, when the text is edited or parts are taken out for concerns of brevity, it is abridged. More than likely, dramatized audio books will be abridged because of the amount of time that it takes to add music and the pauses between speakers. For example, my copy of the unabridged, single-narrator Scarlet Letter is ten CDs; if it were dramatized, it would likely be twenty CDs.

With dramatized audio, you’ll get most of the story, and based on what you’ve said, if you prefer sound effects and different actors for each character, you are more likely to retain the gist of the text than if you listened to an unabridged text read by one person without music.

I have to read a book called "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon," By: Stephen King.
When I read, i understand better when im being read to, so i was wondering if there was a website where you can hear the book?

Thankyyyou ! (:

Don’t know–but Stephen King is popular. Try your local library for a book on tape. This is an awesome book, by the way.

Will they be digital so we can read them on our laptops? Maybe they will be audio so we can listen to them on our ipods while we work.

Do you think we need the smell of the pages? Do you think we need to turn the pages? Maybe we need a cover so we can judge by the cover. Could you do with or without books?

No, they will not, for two reasons.

First, the internet constantly changes. What is there one day is gone the next. Websites are abandoned or not kept updated all the time. Also, if you download a book to your hard drive, the computer may crash, and the HD become totally usesless for recovering information.

Second, even saving books to CD’s is not permanent. CD’s have a limited shelf life. Sure, many are good for 5 to 10 years, but anything can happen to make them unreadable….even just sitting and getting old.

Bound books, on the other hand, can last for centuries. I don’t think modern technology will totally replace the good-ole paper page book.

I’m a new Christian. I have read the New Testament several times and several books written by some well known pastors, but whenever I tried to read the OT, I fell into sleep. Yesterday I downloaded an audio Bible from the internet and listened to it after dinner. This time, I didn’t feel sleepy. I listened to Genesis and were touched by the stories of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. All of a sudden, the OT became an interesting book. You can download it here: http://www.audiotreasure.com/
If you have a MP3 player, you can listen to it anywhere, anytime. You need a "download manager" to download a huge audio file like that. Many "download manager" softwares are free to download on the internet. Download one from a reliable website (watch out the viruses) and install it on your computer before downloading the Bible.
Adelaide: I’ve never heard of Watchman Nee, probably b/c I’m a new Christian, or probably he was arrested by the secret police and his case was not released to the media. You are right. In China, if a Christian openly disagrees with the government on religious issues, he/she will be arrested.

try reading a conservative translation of a summary of each book. That will give you an overview. Then as needed you can develope more information and have a basic knowledge of each book. Zondervan press (N I V) study bible may help. Some of that information is difficult to maintain a high interest. Did you ever find the Bible that was lost?

How can you tell how many chapters are on the parts of the audio books on itunes? …. When you buy audiobooks from itunes is there a site that tells you or anything on itunes that explains what chapters are on each part of the audiobook?

If the book is chaptered they should show up just like songs in an album.

The best is probably something like Cool Edit, or adobe audition.

These are expensive and not too eaasy to work out upon first use.

There are loads of free audio editors on the web though, i have one called wavepad, it is really easy to use and saves things in all sorts of files like mp3, realaudio and aac.

good for converting files that wont play on my mp3 player

HiYahoo Answer people,

Well, like the title says, I’m a little confused!
I would like to download some audio books from my audio CD collection.
How would you do this, and also, to make the file fit onto a 6GB (baring in mind, other songs are on it too) would you need to compress the file?

Thanks

Thanks Ravengam,

Following your instruction now, just hope they all fit on my mp3!

I added a couple of audibook CDs to my iPod in exactly the same way as a normal CD. Just put the audiobook CD in and rip it the same way as a CD, then transfer it to the mp3 player.

One of the books I have is The Colour of Magic. The story is abridged, but still requires 3 CDs, but it only takes up about 165MB of space on my iPod.

If you are using iTunes, you need to make sure that the Genre of the tracks is listed as Books & Spoken to make sure that it’s listed as an audiobook.

Apple has discontinued the mini ipods, and it’s hard to find tips for them either. Can you buy/download audio books to put on your mini, or are those just for the ipods and nanos?

yes you can but it will take up a lot of memory

good luck
