Best Audio Books

I am looking for some where to down load free audio book recordings. I am looking for V.C Andrews and Morgan Freeman!

Sorry but VC Andrews is not giving them away for free so any place that offers them for free has stolen merchandise.

Unabridged audio (or print, for that matter) books contain every word in the original version–and they’re the only way to go.

The abridged version will have the same general story, but a great deal of text will be missing, some of it essential for understanding why characters behave as they do. It’s edited for the sake of shorter running time.

Does anyone know a site to download newish (Stephen King) talking books for free? I have a partially sighted friend who wants some.

I’m not sure if this may help but, ( being a Software Engineer ), I was recently involved in adding features for partially sighted people to some web sites. A subject vastly overlooked by designers I might add! I added useful things like maginifying paragraphs by using the mouse etc. Anyway, to the point. I’m looking for Harry Potter audio books on CD (all of them). Anyone know where I can find the best deals?

Honestly, if you have a computer, go to your local public library first and copy them onto your HDD. I got the first three from there. It’s free. If your library doesn’t have, check with friends, relatives co-workers. OoP cost me $75 for 23 discs. Now that’s only a bit over $3 a disc, but it’s a lot up front. I’d try E-Bay next, just be wary of buying used discs and be sure to read descriptions carefully, they may say the Box Set and only send you the box that the discs came in.

Would I need a very powerful computer to do some audio editing and music creation?

How does this setup sound:

-2.4 Ghz Macbook with 2gb ram
-Apple Logic Express 8
-Western Digital 500GB My Book Studio Edition
-Some Sort of Microphone for Recording

I’d get a little more memory and if you can use two hard drives where one is being used to copy to it speeds it up but neither of what I’m saying is abs necessary. Only if you can afford it.

I’ve just finished the audio books from Richards Dawkins.I also watched many debates involving agnostic and fundamentalists or even both the in same.
They argue there points against the view of Dawkins, which is of course a by-product of Darwinism , and i find myself to be in deep thought.

I never have been much a believer in religion since i was first introduced to Darwin and The origin of species and so much of what Dawkins describes in his book really buts to question the christian beliefs and make me feel stronger in my original veiws of the darwinian belief.

I know a lot of you will read this and say ohh that same old argument, that we neither can explain nor answer, but i would still like to hear some feed back on this; What do you believe came before the existence of the universe, was it a God of some eternal existence, or a result of a outward explsion in with the universe today has continued to expand?

I would like to hear any suggestions ,
I’v heard debates and arguments for both theorys , only that in the big bang theory at least, if only small and not substantal evidence, is still more to say than the former belief were evidence there seems to be none.

I’d like to hear any suggestions or arguments on this subject as all views are welcome.

There WAS no "before". Time was generated along with space by the Big Bang, so there could not have been anything "earlier". The Bang is simply the pointy front end of the universe.

I recently downloaded the audio book "Star Wars: Courtship of Princess Leia" from iTunes and saw that it was abridged.
Looking at the rest of the audio books on iTunes I saw that all of the star wars books are abridged.
Why is that?

Many audio books, not just Star Wars audio books, are released in an abridged format to condense material to a suitable length.

Novels are supposed to be read silently to oneself, which is generally faster than reading aloud. To release a complete version of the novel in audio form would likely last over 20 hours and therefore be very expensive to both the publisher to produce and the consumer to purchase, so instead the publisher will remove anything from small references to entire scenes which are considered superfluous, i.e. they do not move the story along.

I’ve listened to Spenser and Alex Cross (Authors Robert Parker and James Patterson respectively). What other good detective heros are out there that’s great to listen to?

Janet Evanovich and her "One for the Money" series. There are two different readers and one is way better than the other. I think the good one is Cherry Jones.

I also like the Agatha Raisin books but can’t remember who wrote them. Stuart Woods (author) has some good books out there too. The Nero Wolfe series by Rex Stout is excellent. Ellery Queen stories tend to be pretty good.

Please explain the general procedure for saving the file. What is the format? Are there options on which format to choose in downloading audio books for Pod Players? Then how do I get the file on the new player? I’d like to go a head and download some books, even though I don’t have the player yet.
